The gentle alpha

Image
Ryder certainly has the alpha energy. He's a strong and smart boy who will make sure he tests your pack leader ability. He absolutely will follow commands, but he'll see if you mean them first.  Ryder will definitely need a family with experience with dogs, and/or huskys. He'll need mental and physical stimulation to make sure he's not bored. He'll need to know his humans will be there for him just as much as he's willing to protect them.  With that said, he will rough house with the adults and strong arm his fellow bigger dogs, but once my little comes near, he turns to all gentle licks and lap dog.  There is something amazingly intuitive about dogs around children and he's one of them. He is absolutely gentle. Even when our little Sheltie yelped, he ran right over to see if he was okay. He's loving and loyal for sure!

Ryder makes a new friend

Ryder learned to get along with our small Sheltie and still curious about the cat. But even the cat is getting more at ease with him and he's really not about chasing him down anymore.  Although, there was another friend at Fluffy who needed some help with making friends. In the spirit of the holidays, we gave it a try.  And with the best of holiday spirits, these two once "not great with other dogs" has become new friends.  We will continue to see how they grow together while both waiting for their furever families.

What a sweet boy so far

When we met Ryder, there was hesitation due to his size and my younger child. Certainly was not sure about him and my 15 pound sheltie, and then there's the cat..... I will say, he is definitely a gentle giant. With all the "small" friends in the home, it's been the perfect opportunity to practice new things like "gentle" and "leave it" and "get down".  He's doing quite well, to be honest. Huskies are natural hunters so we really were proactive about teaching him friends are and how to be gentle.  He could definitely use a friend, but will TOTALLY love all the human cuddles to himself. If he has a dog friend, it may be best to have something his own size. He definitely loves to play.  He is very energetic and chill at the same time. He'll have zoomies and loves his walks and outside time. He'll just as much love laying next to you on the couch as long as you're snuggling and he'll be happy to give you kisses.  Everyo...

Ryder's new journey

Ryder has been at the rescue for a bit of time and has picked up on some training. He knows sit and paw and quick to pick up a handful more once he's arrived.  He knows lay down, leave it, out. He is certainly ready for his adoption. We're fostering to get him more acquainted to home life while he's waiting on his furever family.  Check out his tricks!!
